Safari park keepers are over the moon with the recent arrival of a baby ring-tailed lemur, which is an endangered species.

This adorable critter was born to its parents, Koko and Berenty, on March 11 at the Woburn Safari Park in Bedfordshire. It weighed just 70g.

The newborn has already been spotted clinging to Koko as its parents groomed each other in the Land of Lemurs walkthrough enclosure.

Keeper Imogen said: “Koko is more than happy to let Berenty come and interact with their baby at this very early stage.

“As time goes on and the baby grows, we will expect them all to interact socially with the group, learn from them and explore their surroundings.”

In the coming months, the youngster will gradually spent less time with its mum and will spend more and more time exploring the trees and ropes within its house.

This baby is really important because these ring-tailed lemurs are known to be endangered, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature red list.

Like all types of lemurs, they are only found on the Madagascar island and unfortunately, their numbers are going down because of hunting and deforestation caused by humans.

Experts believe that there are less than 2,400 ring-tailed lemurs who are living out in the wild currently. So any new bay lemurs like this one are really important for helping this species survive in the long run.

And this isn’t the only newborn in Woburn Safari Park this Spring. There’s also been an otter puppy named Thien Than.

This lucky pup was born to proud parents Beatrix and Kovu.

Brendan and Pansy, the meerkats, have a new baby meerkat who is exploring its home under watchful eyes. In other news, baby wallabies are starting to peek out from their mums’ pouches.
