Britain’s fastest-growing city since the last two censuses, completed in 2011 and 2021, is Cambridge.

The famous university city in the east of England has seen its population swell an astonishing 17 percent from 123,900 to 145,700 in that 10-year period.

When the statistics were revealed in 2022, Cllr Anna Smith, leader of the city council, told CambridgeshireLive: “The new figures show that Cambridge and the surrounding areas continue to be an attractive place to live. We are proud that so many people consider it a welcoming and safe place to make their home.

“We now need to ensure that all residents can benefit from the city’s growth and success over the last 10 years even as we emerge from some difficult times.

“We need to continue to work together to tackle serious challenges like the cost-of-living crisis and the climate and biodiversity emergencies. Our aim is to ensure that the city remains ‘One Cambridge – Fair For All’.”

According to World Population Review, the city’s population is now estimated to be more than 150,000.

It should come as no surprise that Cambridge’s population has grown so rapidly in such a short space of time.

The city is not only recognised as one of England’s finest, but one of the world’s most sought after places to live.

A list put together The Daily Telegraph in 2023 named Cambridge as the 16th best place to live in the UK — up from 30th place in 2011.

The city is perhaps best known for its university colleges, like King’s College and Queen’s College, both of which are sights to behold.

It has become something of an international and cultural hub despite its small size, attracting 8.1million tourists every year, according to Meet Cambridge.

People come from all over the world to see the stunning architecture dotted throughout the city, as well as to experience first-hand punters meandering down the River Cam.

The Telegraph list also dubs Cambridge as “a world-class science and tech hub with well-paid and well-educated professionals in its wake”.
