Trying the Kraken’s new limited-edition Black Spiced Rum, I made The Keeper’s Peril – a delicious new cocktail.
The Legendary Survivor Series – told on the bottle – tells the tale of the “Beast”.
On the case for the caged bottle, it reads: “The lighthouse shone brightly – a beacon of hope in dark, perilous seas.
“But one fateful night, its glaring beam caught the eye of the Beast. A burning fury was sparked within the creature of the deep, and it surged towards the surface…”
Cracking open the cage, I’m presented with a uniquely shaped bottle with a fierce illustration by Justin Estcourt.
Around The Kraken Black Spiced Rum bottle is the portrayal of the Beast emerging from the rough waves of the sea to destroy the lighthouse.
The story continues: “Throughout history, the legend of the Kraken’s attack has haunted seafarers and land-dwellers alike.
“But now, rumours spread that a lighthouse keeper has narrowly evaded its fatal grip, leaving the world paralysed by fear as it awaits the Beast’s merciless revenge.”
Looking closely at the scene, you can see the lighthouse keeper bravely confronting the Beast and escaping for his life.
Each bespoke bottle of Caribbean black spiced rum tells of another encounter with the Beast – making it the perfect collectors’ item.
For those who love to host (and drink) at home, here’s how to make The Keeper’s Peril cocktail utilising the Caribbean rum, which is blended with spices and caramel.
The Keeper’s Peril cocktail
Ingredients:
Ice
Two parts Kraken Black Spiced Rum
One part Cointreau or Triple Sec
Five parts orange juice
Splash of lemon-lime soda
Two dashes of Angostura orange bitters
Orange slice (to garnish)
Method
- Add Kraken and triple sec (or Cointreau) to a tall glass of ice.
- Top with orange juice, and splash of lemon-lime soda and dash bitters.
- Garnish with an orange slice to symbolise the bright beam of the lighthouse.
While sipping on the cocktail, friends and family agreed it is a “lovely change to having chilled white wine”.
“Wonderful,” said another, who enjoyed the refreshing taste that would be “fantastic in the sunshine”.
