Belgium shooting latest: Police officer shot dead and two more injured in raid | World | News

Horror scenes in Belgium have seen one police officer shot dead and two others wounded. The suspect is said to have barricaded himself in a house in Rue de L’Etang in Charleroi, Wallonia, where a stand-off began – and ended in tragic circumstances.

Officers are said to have been called to raid a house, but it is here when shots were reportedly fired at around 7am local time, according to Belgian media.

A large area in the suburb of Lodelinsart was cordoned off as officers closed in on the suspect who was eventually detained and arrested. One police officer has been confirmed dead at the scene, with the remaining two injured suffering both minor and critical injuries.

The officers were all part of the Directorate of Special Units (DSU) – a team of around 500 highly-trained officers equipped to deal with high-risk incidents such as terrorist attacks, kidnappings and hostage situations, the Mirror reports.
