Freeview and Sky boost – great free channel arrives on TVs this week

Bored with the current crop of channels on your TV? There’s good news coming to your living room this week with a new service launching on platforms including Sky and Freeview. It’s called GREAT! Real and promises to show unscripted content throughout the day and evening.

That means viewers can watch shows such as Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport, Paddington Station 24/7, land Medics and Coast Guard Alaska. The best part is, it’s totally free to tune into so you won’t face any additional fees on your monthly bill. If that sounds enticing then you’ll find GREAT! Real goes live on March 20th

“With an array of gripping observational series focusing on dramatic real-life events and moving human stories, brand-new free channel GREAT! Real gives TV audiences a compelling, behind-the-scenes insight into the lives of real-life heroes,” the firm berhind the channel said.

“Launching on Sky and Freeview on 20th March 2024, free channel GREAT! Real offers an unprecedented view of the real lives of on call medics and police patrols to coastal rescue missions and airport operations.”

A new channel launch is clearly good news for homes but sadly, another long-running service is about to shut down.

SportyStuff TV, which is currently available to view for free on platforms including Sky and Freeview, will stop broadcasting its content from March 31 meaning it will soon vanish from screens across the UK.

The channel, which offers access to sporting events such as US motor racing, European Rally Championships and greyhound racing has been on air for 12 years but has now decided to call time on its output.

“This brings to a close 12 years of service provided by the Company to shareholders and viewers,” said Kevan Moretti, SportyStuff TV’s chairman & CEO in an update on the firm’s website.

“We would especially like to thank SportyStuffTV’s production staff, presenters, guests, crew, and suppliers for their continued support throughout.

“With inevitable sadness today, there is also much to be proud of and it is regrettable that external circumstances beyond our control have brought about this closure. 2023 was the Company’s most successful year of trading, so we leave now at the top of our game.”
