Tourists defend the UK’s ‘worst’ seaside town as visitors love the ‘beautiful’ beach | UK | News

Tourists have defended what has been dubbed as the UK’s “worst” seaside town as visitors call the beach “sensational”.

Although Blackpool has earned a questionable reputation among seaside towns, that hasn’t stopped thousands of tourists flooding for short staycations.

Last year, The Telegraph dubbed it one of the worst seaside towns in the whole region, with a brutal ranking of just 22/100.

This left it being named as the fourth worst seaside town in the UK, alongside fellow Lancashire town Morecambe.

But despite this, tourists are still raving about some of the amenities on offer, with families particularly loving the sandy beach on offer.

Writing on TripAdvisor, Lisa wrote: “What a diffence this time round. It was a lovely clean beach. So much better then the last visit i had few years ago. It was really lovely this time round no problems. Felt a bit uneasy at times after dark walking along the sea front but it has been a big improvement. It’s more of a family destination now compared to what it was like a few years back.”

Another praised the “lovely, relaxing beach” and said the pier offers “nice views” across the ocean.

Margaret, who visited last month, also said she’s noticed a “lot of changes” over the years she has been visiting, adding: “They have spent a lot of money on the promenade.”

Others cited the Blackpool Tower ballroom as a “must visit” attraction, with Blackpool Tower coming in close second.

The beach has received an impressive overall rating on Google and TripAdvisor of 4.5 stars.

At the start of the month, the Government announced a huge £90million regeneration investment for Blackpool, aimed at building new homes and neighbourhoods.

Cllr Lynn Williams Leader of Blackpool Council said at the time: “We are extremely pleased about today’s announcement. It has been eagerly awaited and is a testament to the strong working relationship we have with Central Government, Homes England and a number of other partners locally and nationally.

“Our residents and communities desperately need better housing and investment in their neighbourhoods, especially in the inner areas of Blackpool. We will use this funding to continue the process of positive change, improving housing, neighbourhoods and life chances across inner Blackpool. We will be holding a full public consultation concerning our plans for a first phase.”
