Viral ‘rose’ egg recipe is ‘actually perfect’ – just two ingredients

The classic omelette is a dish that is so versatile it can take you from lunch to dinner. However, one viral cooking method has elevated the typical egg dish to create what is being described as the “ rose”.

The dish has been re-created and re-posted by chefs and content creators across and for many years, but it’s a major hit that remains popular.

Perhaps the best thing about it is that you only need two ingredients to make the dish – eggs and salt. Cooking experts from Australian Eggs explained: “This is a super simple technique that will take your pan of scrambled eggs into ‘I’d pay good money for that territory’.”

Australian Eggs posted a for the dish on their website, as well as a YouTube video taking you through the recipe step-by-step.

They use a spatula to create the swirled egg effect, which leaves your omelette looking somewhat like a rose.

In their recipe video, Australian Eggs explained: “All you have to do is gently push the set sheet of egg from the bottom of the pan around the edges titling the pan so that the raw egg on top runs off and sets to form a new layer.

“Think of it kind of like rolling up a cinnamon bun. One hot tip is a good non-stick pan and a spatula are critical for success. Once there is no more egg running off then tuck in any loose edges and slide it onto a piece of hot buttered toast.

“Now you have soft and silky folded eggs ready to pair with your favourite hot sauce or chilli oil.”

Of course, Australian Egg’s chefs aren’t the only ones making this eye-catching dish, with other chefs showing their own way to make the egg swirl.

On TikTok, self-proclaimed “omelette pro” @omuraisupuro showed their own unique take on the recipe – using chopsticks to create the swirl.

One viewer of the video commented: “That is actually perfect ask Gordon hahaha.” They suggested that Gordon Ramsey, notoriously picky about omelettes, would even be happy with the ornate egg dish.

Ingredients

  • Three eggs
  • A pinch of salt

Method

1. To begin, crack your eggs into a bowl, add a pinch of salt and mix until you the eggs are broken up.

2. Next, set a small non-stick pan over medium heat. Let the pan heat up for a few minutes before adding butter or oil into the pan.

3. Pour in your eggs.

4. Allow a few seconds for your egg to set on the bottom.

5. Slowly run a spatula around the edge of the pan in a circle, pulling the set egg on the bottom into a small pile.

6. Keep repeating this, gently rolling the set egg around the edge of the pan. Make sure to tilt the pan sideways so that any uncooked egg can run off and set.

7. Once there is no more egg running off, tuck in any loose edges and your eggs are done. Now, simply serve (it’s particularly good on toast or with avocados).
