Wimbledon reach out to Princess Kate after heartbreaking cancer diagnosis confirmed | Tennis | Sport

“The thoughts of everyone at the All England Club are with our Patron HRH The Princess of Wales, HRH The Prince of Wales and their family at this time,” the club wrote on social media. “We wish The Princess of Wales the very best as she takes the time she needs to make a full recovery.”

Ons Jabeur also sent a message to Princess Kate. The world No. 6 has finished as the runner-up at Wimbledon for the past two years and shared a special moment with the future Queen after losing in the final last year. “Your Royal Highness, thinking of you and sending you hugs of comfort. Wishing you a speedy recovery,” Jabeur wrote.

Kate, 42, shared a heartbreaking video from her Windsor home. She said that she had undergone successful abdominal surgery in January and that at the time she was told her condition was non-cancerous. Post-operative tests later revealed that Kate had cancer and she confirmed that she had started preventative chemotherapy.

The Princess of Wales said that it took some time to process the news as well as explain everything to her and Prince William‘s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Kate added that having William by her side “is a great source of comfort and reassurance” and asked for “time, space and privacy”. In the video, filmed on Wednesday, March 20, she said: “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful.

“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

It is understood that it was her personal decision to announce this today, after her children broke up for the Easter holidays. “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she added.

“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok. As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.”
