American actor Anthony Guidera has passed away aged 65. Guidera, who appeared in The Godfather III, died on Saturday (June 6).
The star had been in hospital since May 11 after collapsing at his home in Southern California. His wife, Valerie, said Guidera was rushed to hospital after his heart suddenly stopped, and he was put on life support for three weeks.
Guidera's life support was later removed, and he was brought back to his home where he died naturally. His cause of death is unknown, as doctors do not know what caused the initial collapse.
Guidera launched his film career in 1990 when he landed the role of a bodguard named Anthony in the third instalment of The Godfather trilogy.
In 1995, he starred in the sci-fi film Species alongside Natasha Henstridge, Forest Whitaker, and Michelle Williams.
He went on to appear in the films The Rock (1996), The Postman (1997), and Armageddon (1998). Throughout the 90s, Guidera made one-off appearances in several TV series, including The Exile (1991), Renegade (1993), Baywatch (1993), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993), Valley of the Dolls (1994), High Tide (1995) and The Good News (1998).
The late star continued acting into the early 2000s, making his final on-screen appearance in the film L.A. Dicks, opposite Dean Alioto and Sarah Wynter in 2005.
