A huge fire that has been burning for hours has prompted the evacuation of schools and flats. The blaze has engulfed a two-storey building that combines warehouse facilities with retail space, leaving approximately three-quarters of the structure consumed by flames.
Around 150 firefighters are tackling the incident with significant resources, including three of the Brigade’s turntable ladders, which enable crews to attack the fire from above and prevent further spread. Officials from Ealing Council stated that nearby areas are being evacuated to make sury everyone around the incident is safe.
Sharing an update on X, Ealing Council stated: "London Fire Brigade are responding to a large fire at Middlesex Business Park in Bridge Road, Southall.
"Residents in affected areas nearby are being evacuated, and schools are sending pupils home. Rest centres have been established.
"Disruption is expected for the next eight hours. Please avoid the area if you can. If you live nearby, please stay inside and keep windows and doors closed."
The Brigade’s Control Officers have received 60 emergency calls about the fire, with the first alert coming in at 8.55am. In response, crews from Southall, Heston, Ealing, and several nearby fire stations have been dispatched to the scene.
Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne, the Brigade's Incident Commander said: “A major incident has been declared as firefighters tackle a warehouse fire on Bridge Street, Southall.
"This decision has been taken due to the suspected presence of fireworks and cylinders being stored within the structure. All firefighters have withdrawn to a safe distance and are now fighting the fire from a greater distance to ensure crew safety.
"Firefighters are working hard to bring this fire safely under control. The incident involves a mixed retail and warehouse space, with a significant part of the structure currently alight. Due to the complex nature of the site, and the size of the fire, this will be a protracted incident with crews continuing out firefighting operations through the day.
“We have helped evacuate a nearby school and block of flats, as a safety precaution.
"The fire is producing a large amount of smoke, with the plume visible across West London. Residents in the immediate area are advised to keep doors and windows closed as crews respond. Traffic in the local area will be heavily impacted, and people should avoid the area if possible."
