The Met Office has issued new yellow weather warnings as the UK braces for torrential rain, flooding, and strong winds over the coming hours. The yellow warning comes into place at 6pm today and will stay in place untill 2pm tomorrow. 

According to the National Weather Agency, there is a risk of severe disruption as adverse weather conditions develop. Power cuts and the loss of other essential services may affect some homes and businesses, while flooding could cause significant damage to buildings. Fast-flowing or deep floodwater is possible, posing a serious danger to life. Travel is also likely to be impacted, with delays or cancellations to train and bus services, and spray or flooding making driving hazardous, potentially leading to road closures. In the worst-affected areas, communities may become isolated due to flooded roads, further highlighting the seriousness of the situation, the Met Office warned.

The Met Office explained: "Outbreaks of rain will become persistent and heavy on Monday night into Tuesday morning. There will naturally be some variation in rainfall totals across the area, but accumulations of 20-40 mm are likely in quite a few places, with 60-80 mm over Dartmoor and high ground in Wales.

"There is a chance of up to 100 mm falling over the most exposed, prone hills. Given the saturated nature of the ground, this is likely to lead to some flooding in places and transport disruption. Rain will also be accompanied by strengthening southerly winds, which may exacerbate impacts."
