Police and firefighters descended on a busy road in a UK city after a fire erupted opposite a popular restaurant. A huge blaze erupted in the upper stories on a building on Chillingham Road in Newcastle.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service used an aerial ladder platform (ALP) to tackle the fire. The incident is understood to have been reported at 6.16pm this evening, December 9. The fire service have confirmed that its teams were at the scene but could not yet say anything further as to the nature of the fire, reports ChronicleLive.
Images from the scene show a fire service ALP being used to position a hose for fighting the blaze.
The road appears to be blocked in the area between Simonside Terrace and Rothbury Terrace. The fire seems to have taken place opposite the popular New Greek restaurant.
Northumbria Police were also spotted at the scene.
