A young woman was bludgeoned over the head before being brutally raped in what police have described as an “abhorrent” attack at a Surrey railway station. Officers have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the shocking incident, which happened at about 11pm on August 23.
The victim was walking through an alleyway leading to Leatherhead station when a man approached and started talking to her. Seconds afterwards, he hit her on the back of the head before raping her.
Both the man and his victim then boarded a London-bound train, leaving the service at Cheam.
Just before midnight the woman was found lying beside the road by a passer-by outside Cheam station.
BTP Detective Sergeant Andrew Winters said: “This was an abhorrent attack targeting a young woman late at night.
“The victim has been receiving specialist support as our investigation continues, and we are appealing to the public to assist our efforts to track down the man responsible.
“If you know the man in the CCTV images, please contact us, as we believe he may be able to help us with our ongoing enquiries.”
