The new year is a peak time to start planning holidays for the year, but January is actually the perfect month to travel if you want to get ahead of the crowds. Many use this time of year to recharge, and what would be better than doing so on a warm beach? As we still have a long way to go until the summer sun hits, it can be a great time to chase some heat elsewhere.
There are plenty holiday hotspots that already reach above 22°C at this time of year. Plus, you would likely face smaller crowds than in peak summer travel season.
So, if you are planning a last-minute winter sun getaway, a travel expert has rounded up their top seven picks for this year.
TikTok user @kelseyinlondon, who shares travel tips online, has selected her best winter sun destinations that certainly pack some heat.
First up on Kelsey's list is Thailand, which is an increasingly popular holiday destination for Brits. In January, temperatures sit at an average of 30°C and holidaymakers can benefit from the dry season. Picture endless blue skies, clear blue water and island vibes.
Dubai is known for its heat, but in January, you will be able to enjoy the desert warmth without it being too oppressive. There is an average of 25°C this month.
Kelsey said: "January in Dubai is the perfect balance of warm days and cool evenings. Soak up the sun at beach clubs, explore the desert by hot air balloon, and enjoy alfresco dining in Dubai Marina."
Head to paradise and soak up 28°C heat by heading to the Maldives. Relax and set your New Year's resolutions amid crystal-clear water and calm seas. Chill out in an overwater villa or explore the local wildlife with a snorkelling trip.
Take a winter break to Morocco, where you can enjoy wandering the streets of Marrakech with fewer crowds. Temperatures sit at a nice 21°C as you embrace the culture the city has to offer.
Europe's much-loved winter sun destination is perfect for enjoying beach days away from the summer rush. There is an average of 22°C as you wind down on the islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria or La Palma.
For an even hotter island experience, head to Barbados, where temperatures reach an average of 28°C. Kelsey said: "It’s peak dry season, so you can spend all day lazing on white sand beaches, sipping rum punches, and enjoying the island’s incredible laidback vibes."
Head to the likes of Hurghada, El Gouna and Sharm El Sheikh where you can expect sunshine, golden sands and warm turquoise waters. At 24°C, you will still be able to head out into the evenings for a mild night out.
