The Met Office has updated one of the yellow warnings issued in recent days. The national weather forecaster announced on Tuesday, January 6, it brought forward its yellow alert for ice to Tuesday evening. The warning, covering a whopping 131 across much of Scotland, Wales and England, was initially set to come into force on Wednesday, from midnight to 10am.
However, it has now been edited to start at 7.13pm on Tuesday until 10am on Wednesday. The Met Office warned of potential disruptions caused by the ice, including travel delays and injuries. It said: "Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths."
The weather agency advised people to leave earlier and take extra care to avoid slipping on the ice. Drivers were also urged to check road conditions before leaving as you might need to make alternative travel arrangements.
It said: "Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
"If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary."
