A British fashion store popular among celebrities is set to close this year after 35 years of trading. Cricket, based in Liverpool's Metquarter, is set to shut in a matter of weeks.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, 'store closing all stock must go' signs have been spotted in the fashion store's windows. Frasers Group, which took over Cricket Fashion in 2023, chose not to comment when approached by the publication for additional details. When the Metquarter store was contacted directly, an employee confirmed that it would stop trading around March 2026.
A notice in the window corroborates this, stating "this store will cease trading in March 2026. Please visit our website flannels.com".
It remains unclear whether the store will transition online or relocate to another premises in the future.
Cricket was founded by Justine Mills in 1991 as a menswear boutique in Cavern Walks on Mathew Street, before pivoting to high-end women's fashion towards the late 1990s. The retailer was one of the first independent stores to carry Christian Louboutin shoes and accessories.
This led to Cricket being selected to showcase Louboutin's 20th anniversary limited edition collection in 2012, alongside iconic department stores Harrods and Harvey Nichols.
The store boasts a star-studded fan base, with Coleen Rooney, Alex Gerrard, Nicola Carragher, and Sheree Murphy all gracing its 2008 fashion show.
After 28 years, Cricket relocated to a larger unit in the Metquarter in 2019. The shop is renowned for the lengthy queues outside its doors during its Boxing Day sales.
The entrance to the high-end shopping centre was adorned with the Vogue front cover, and Coleen was seen beaming for the ECHO photographer as she arrived at the party with her mum, Colette, and dad, Tony.
The Metquarter houses a range of shops including Carvela, Say It With and Gypsabella. It also accommodates Everyman Cinema, Victoria Street Collective, a group of food traders, and LMA, which provides creative courses.
