Line of Duty star Brian McCardie, who played underworld boss John Thomas ‘Tommy’ Hunter in the hit BBC series, has had the contents of his will confirmed. Legal documents have revealed that McCardie left a £70,000 estate behind when he died in 2024, which was reduced to £62,300 after funeral costs.
Most of his money was held in bank accounts in England and Wales, but he split £709 between Scotland and Northern Ireland. A fundraiser in his memory for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland also raised £2,800. The TV star had a career on screen which lasted over 35 years, with one of his most recent being in Time alongside Stephen Graham and Sean Bean on the BBC.
But it was his role as Hunter in the first two seasons of Line of Duty which catapulted him into fame. The show's creator, Jed Mercurio, paid tribute alongside producer Simon Heath at the time of his death, saying in a statement: "Brian was an incredibly talented actor, and the lasting impact he had as Tommy Hunter is testament to the power of his performance.
"Off screen, Brian couldn’t have been more different from the character he played – he was warm, funny and charming. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time."
His sister Sarah announced his death on X, formerly know as Twitter, in April 2024, writing: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie, beloved son, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many. Brian passed away suddenly at home on Sunday 28th April.
"A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon."
