A Death in Paradise actor who was diagnosed with dementia has had almost £30,000 raised in his honour, with more on the way from an upcoming benefit gig. Junior Simpson, who appeared in the BBC drama as Milton Reynards, was forced to retire from his stand-up comedy career after receiving the diagnosis.

Now famous faces including Jason Manford and Chris McCausland are confirmed to be taking part in a new fundraising concert in his honour, which will take place at the Comedy Store on May 31st. £27,000 has already been raised for the star via a GoFundMe, to help pay for his long-term care.

Junior, 62, has vascular dementia, which was caused by reduced blood flow to the brain after he suffered a series of strokes.

His wife Emma, who helped to organise the gig, told Chortle: “I'm overwhelmed by the response from the comedy circuit. the love they have for Junior is quite special.

“I’m hugely grateful to everyone who is giving their time and talent, especially Adam Bloom who has helped make this happen. It's going to be an emotional but glorious afternoon for Junior.”

Tickets are priced at £32.75 each.
