An iconic UK coffee chain has revealed plans to open 500 new stores across the UK over the next five years, despite the business operating in a "tougher market". Starbucks expects the first 75 shops to open within the next 12 months, despite reporting recent operating losses.
Recent filings at Companies House show that Starbucks UK’s operating losses grew to £29.8m for the year ending 28 September 2025, up from £27.5m the previous year. The company said the increase was driven by continued rises in input costs, higher spending on wages and benefits—including a 7.8% rise in NICs—and one‑off expenses linked to its store closure programme in September 2025. Despite this, revenues rose by 5.8% to £556.3m, supported by stronger customer traffic and targeted expansion in key locations, reports The Grocer.
