Toy designer Roger Sweet, who is credited with creating the enduringly popular character He-Man, has died at the age of 91 following a battle with dementia. His death comes just two months before a live-action version of his creations hits the big screen. His wife, Marlene confirmed the news to TMZ is telling them he had died peacefully in his sleep. Roger designed and named the original He-Man character back in the '80s. The designer worked for the toy manufacturing company Mattel for more than 15 years, and his creation will appear in the upcoming live-action film Masters of the Universe.
His final few months had been marred with health struggles as his dementia worsened, and Marlene had previously revealed he suffered a scary fall while walking alone and couldn’t remember what happened.Following this Doctors found two brain bleeds, and he was rushed to the ICU before being moved to a facility, which cost more than $10,000 a month.
Marlene had set up a GoFundMe to cover the costs of living in the mejory care facility where he could be monitored and safe and where he spent his final days.
"It is devastating to see this happening. Unfortunately, these care facilities are not covered by Medicare, and the cost for a patient in his condition is $10,200 a month, well above our monthly income," she wrote at the time.
"The doctors consider him a high risk for falls and say he must use a walker, considering the dementia and brain bleeds, but he says he does not need it and continues to walk around in his confused state," she added.
"So I am reaching out to all the HE-MAN fans for help with these bills. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and will ease the burden of this new expense," she concluded.
