TV presenter Davina McCall admitted that a member of the public didn't know who she was after making a hilarious blunder.

Davina is one of the most recognisable faces on British TV, with her impressive list of credits including Big Brother, The Masked Singer, Long Lost Family, Million Pound Drop and The Jump.

You would think that CV would make Davina instantly recognisable when she walks the streets in the UK, but apparently that's not the case.

Speaking on her Making The Cut podcast that she co-hosts with husband Michael Douglas, she told how a passerby mistook her for fellow presenter Claudia Winkleman.

Davina recounted the tale that happened outside a hotel, calling if her "most embarrassing moment ever". She was talking to the doorman and a couple of other people she knew when two teenage girls walked past.

The 58-year-old said: "One of them started freaking out and said 'oh my God, it's you.' She started hitting her friend going 'take our picture, take our picture'.

"While she was standing next to me I looked at the two people who were with the doorman and they were going 'oh look, someone's recognised her.'

"I went: 'I mean, it happens sometimes, yeah.' And this girl's taking a picture of me and her friend leans over and goes 'she doesn't know who you are.'

"I was like: 'Lots of people don't know who I am, that's fine.' And she went: 'But I do.' And I kept smiling for the picture. She whispered to me: 'My mum loves Traitors.'"

Davina said that everyone present laughed at the case of mistaken identity before she gently broke the news that she wasn't Claudia Winkleman.

The TV star admitted that the interaction gave her a dose of humble pie before she added: "Three days later I got called Carol, so I'm just going with it."

It comes after Davina was given the all-clear from cancer as she shared an emotional update with her fans.

The mum-of-three underwent a lumpectomy last October after discovering a lump. It came less than a year after Davina had surgery to remove a benign brain tumour.

Speaking on a previous episode of her podcast, she said: "I went to go and have a checkup on my boobs the other day, obviously quite a serious day, quite heavy. It was all clear, just letting everyone know. Good news, good news."

She went to get the lump checked by doctors on the advice of friend and fellow TV host Lorraine Kelly. She underwent surgery which was followed by intense radiotherapy.

Davina rocked her fans back in November when she announced: “I just wanted to tell you that I have had breast cancer. I found a lump a few weeks ago, and it came and went." She added: “So I had a biopsy.

"I found out it was indeed breast cancer, and I had it taken out in a lumpectomy nearly three weeks ago ... It was very, very small, so I got it very, very early, which is incredibly lucky, but I am so relieved to have had it removed, and to know that it hasn’t spread."
