BBC bosses covered up an attack by a TV presenter who broke the wrist of a female colleague, it has been claimed. The Mail on Sunday reports BBC chiefs were made aware of the allegations but failed to report the incident to the police or take disciplinary action against the high-profile presenter. Instead, reports claim the accused was placed on "undesirable" shifts but continued to work as a broadcaster for several years.

A source told the outlet about the alleged incident, claiming: "He had taken her by the wrists, crossed them over one another and then threw her down on the floor. A doctor's report was filed, but nobody did anything about it. It was a cover-up from the BBC."

It is thought that the incident, which resulted in the woman being treated in the hospital, took place around 2014. Bosses at the broadcaster are thought to have called the member of staff in on several occasions to discuss his alleged workplace behaviour.

Reports suggest several makeup artists also reported possible evidence of alcohol and drug use at the time. It is understood that the star was later arrested over an unconnected incident during his time at the BBC, but was later released without charge.

But management decided not to axe him but instead gave him shifts considered "undesirable". The source added that the BBC hoped the presenter would leave the corporation of his own accord, adding that they acted as his shield.

This is just the latest in a string of presenter allegations the corporation has faced over the last few years.

It is understood that both the presenter and the female colleague involved in the altercation have since left the broadcaster for unrelated reasons not connected to the claims. Express.co.uk has contacted the BBC for comment.
