
Utz Quality Foods issued the recall in the United States. The recall pertains to some varieties of Zapp’s and Dirty potato chips.
It is understood that the impacted chips' seasoning contains a dry milk powder, sourced from California Dairies, which recently issued a recall of its milk powder due to potential salmonella contamination.
The milk recall also caused chocolate-maker Ghirardelli recall some of its powdered beverage mixes.
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause severe, and at times fatal, infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
If the bacteria enters the bloodstream, it can cause a severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
No illnesses have been reported to Utz Quality Foods in connection with the recall, America's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a press release.
The FDA said the recall has been issued out of an abundance of caution.
