Veteran pop sensation Bonnie Tyler has reportedly been rushed to a hosiptal in surgery after suggering from a perforated intestine. It is understood that the Total Eclipse of the Heart singer, 74, underwent surgery in the heart of the Algarve, which she has called her home since 1988. The musician, who hails from Mumbles in south Wales, is now recovering in the hospital following the terrifying operation.

A spokesman for the 80s chart-topper told The Sun: "We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery. The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery."

The hitmaker is best known for her No. 1 hit Total Eclipse of the Heart in 1983, followed by four other top ten hits, including It's A Heartache and Holding Out for a Hero. Bonnie, who tied the knot to property developer Robert Sullivan in 1973, competed at the Eurovision Song Contest as the UK's representative in 2013, finishing in 19th place with her song, Believe In Me.

She released her 18th studio album, The Best Is Yet To Come, in 2021. That year, the chart-topper opened up about ageing, crediting her youthful looks to regular Botox injections. The 80s icon confessed: "I've been having Botox twice a year, for many years, darling.

"I haven't had the opportunity since the Christmas before last. But I'm doing alright. I'm quite fit for my age, thank God. And I'm never going to retire. I look at Tom Jones, he's amazing. His voice is as strong as ever - and he's got ten years on me."

Last year, the pop superstar detailed the heartbreaking moment she suffered a miscarriage at the age of 39. The Welsh singing icon told The Mirror about the tragic ordeal, recalling: "I did have a miscarriage when I was 39. At that point, it just felt like the right time to have a baby.

"For the first time, I felt maternal, and we stopped all precautions, and it happened straight away. But then I lost the baby, and it didn't happen after that." Despite the heartache, Bonnie remains positive, saying: "It's weird, but I count myself blessed to have known that I could be pregnant, that I have been pregnant.

"Robert and I were so sad when it happened, but I'm not the type to dwell on things. The following weekend, I was in Paris for a TV show, then I just moved on." The 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' singer hails from a large family with three sisters, two brothers, one sadly deceased and a plethora of nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews, many of whom reside near her in Swansea.
