A woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect following the death of a baby in south Manchester.

Emergency services were dispatched to Platt Lane in Fallowfield on Thursday morning (May 7), with an air ambulance touching down nearby.

Police have confirmed they were alerted to a welfare concern, and that a baby girl was subsequently taken to hospital, where she tragically passed away.

A witness at the scene told the Manchester Evening News she watched a paramedic rush out of a property carrying a baby. "It was terrifying," she said. "Very scary.", reports the Manchester Evening News.

A 25-year-old woman has since been arrested and remains in police custody. A cordon will stay in place on the residential street while officers carry out their investigation.
