Outlander is drawing to a close with the eagerly-anticipated series finale arriving imminently, reports the Daily Record.

Season eight, which marks the final instalment, has been plagued by viewer criticism regarding its devastating Faith Fraser storyline and the demise of a significant character that wasn't featured in Diana Gabaldon's original novels.

Outlander's concluding run is adapted from Gabaldon's ninth novel in the series Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone and will be concluding the sweeping saga.

While the show is finishing, Gabaldon is penning the 10th and final novel in the Outlander series, which will be arriving in bookshops eventually to satisfy fans of the historical franchise.

Outlander season eight, episode 10 is titled And the World Was All Around Us and will be broadcasting on Friday, May 15 on Starz in the USA.

The Outlander series finale will be broadcasting on MGM+ via Prime Video on Saturday, May 16 in the UK.

Starz has released a brief preview for the series finale, which sees Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) readying his militia to enter battle.

Jamie delivers a stirring speech: "As we stand on the brink of battle, let our hearts be ablaze never with fury or fear or hatred but the desire to fight for freedom." There's a montage of scenes showcasing the programme's principal characters, before viewers see Jamie cradling his wife Claire Fraser's (Caitríona Balfe) face as she appears distressed and frightened.

Jamie tells her: "If I die tomorrow, remember me."

The trailer concludes with Jamie and Claire pressing their foreheads together in an intimate moment as she says in voiceover: "We will always be together."

Numerous fans expressed their reactions to the trailer in the comments section on YouTube.

One person posted: "I'm not prepared for this. I never thought I'd get this emotional hearing the original theme song."

A second noted: "I'm crying but excited for this finale! I literally grew up watching this. The OG song gave me goosebumps! [sic]"
