Millions of Deliveroo users will from today be able to order groceries and retail items from up to three different shops in a single delivery as the app rolls out what it says is a UK industry first. The delivery giant said it is trialling a new feature called “Bundles”, allowing customers to combine products from multiple stores into one basket without paying an additional delivery fee.
The scheme is initially being tested with grocery shoppers across the UK and Ireland. The move means customers could order from a supermarket, bakery and pharmacy at the same time through one checkout on the app.
Deliveroo said the feature had been designed to mimic “a trip to the local high street” and tackle complaints from users unable to find all the products they wanted in one store.
The company claimed no other UK delivery platform currently allows shoppers to order from three separate stores in a single transaction.
At the same time, Deliveroo is also expanding its existing “top up” function, which lets customers add extra items after placing an order. Previously limited to nearby retailers, the feature will now include restaurants, allowing users to add food from a second eatery after checking out.
That means customers ordering a takeaway could later add groceries, desserts or dishes from another restaurant within a short window after payment.
Deliveroo said the changes could increase the size and frequency of orders while helping local retailers attract more business.
Suzy McClintock, Deliveroo’s Vice President of Consumer and New Verticals, said: “We want to emulate a trip to the shops on your local high street through the ability to order from multiple stores in a single order.
“Whether that be your local supermarket, butchers or bakers, through to your pharmacy, or florist, grocery customers can fulfil different needs in a single order, for no extra delivery cost.”
The new features are currently in a pilot phase and could be altered depending on customer response.
