The bank holiday weekend looks set to be a scorcher, with the Met Office forecasting a balmy 28C in the south east of England. Many parts of the country are expected to see the mercury rise into the mid- to high-20Cs on Friday and Saturday as high pressure takes hold.
The Met Office forecasts 27C in Birmingham, Hull and Norwich on Friday, while the highest temperatures will be in London and the south east where 28C is possible. With hot weather outside, homes will also heat up as warmth gets trapped inside. Devices can add to that sweltering feeling too as they give out heat too.
While many of us will be glad of a bit of heat outside after some relatively unsettled weather, some may still want to keep their homes cool for comfort.
This calls for a timely reminder of a few simple tips on how to help keep the temperature of your home down, as suggested by Oliver Novakovic from housebuilder, Barratt.
Amid a heatwave last year, he told the Express: "Turn off the electricals - not only could this reduce energy bills, but it could also help reduce heat build-up in the house.
"Electronics such as televisions, computers, gaming consoles, and even phone chargers can produce heat."
Another tip includes opening the loft hatch if you have one.
Oliver explained: "As the hot air rises in your home, it can often get trapped on the second floor where you may be trying to sleep.
"Opening the loft hatch can allow the air to rise further and away from your bedroom, helping to bring the temperature down and allow for a better night's sleep."
LED lightbulbs also emit less heat, and they are cheaper as well. Oliver said: "Ninety percent of the energy given out by traditional, incandescent light bulbs is heat.
"Whilst this may not seem a lot, it can contribute to a room’s ambient temperature."
