Netflix has just dropped a revealing new documentary centred on former Neighbours actress and pop icon Kylie Minogue.

Launched today (Wednesday, 20th May), the three-part series showcases brand new exclusive interviews with Kylie herself, alongside her friends, family, and collaborators, as the Australian legend reflects on her remarkable life and career.

One of the standout moments of the documentary is her time on the beloved Australian soap opera Neighbours during the 1980s, playing the role of Charlene Mitchell, where she first encountered her former boyfriend Jason Donovan.

Jason played Charlene's love interest Scott Robinson, and the pair even walked down the aisle in an episode that aired in the UK on 8th November 1988 to millions of eager viewers, reports the Mirror.

Yet, despite Charlene and Scott remaining together long after their exit from the programme, Kylie and Jason's real-life romance sadly failed to endure much beyond their farewell to Erinsborough, Melbourne.

Kylie and Jason, both 57, began their respective runs on Neighbours in 1986, with their off-screen romance blossoming shortly thereafter.

The pop superstar recently told The Sunday Times: "We fancied each other. The love story in the show came first, and then it became a real thing." They continued dating for three years before Kylie departed Neighbours in 1988, with Jason doing likewise in 1989.

Their romance concluded that same year after both stars pursued their careers in a more musical direction. While they did perform together on their UK number one single Especially For You in 1988, they soon chose to concentrate on their individual careers.

Kylie subsequently started dating INXS band member Michael Hutchence in 1989, just a few months afterwards, remaining together until 1991. Her former partner Jason actually played a significant role in bringing them together, as he had obtained backstage passes for INXS's tour for their hit album Kick in 1988.

"I wasn't the only one to notice the buzz between Kylie and Michael that night," Jason has revealed previously, per Grazia. "I'd noticed him staring at her when we met backstage. He kept whispering in her hair and she kept laughing."

While neither Kylie nor Jason have disclosed a single reason for the separation, it is widely believed that the pressure of their hectic schedules combined with Kylie and Michael's connection resulted in their relationship breaking down. Nevertheless, while the split may have been difficult, they have maintained cordial relations.

Jason recently disclosed to the Big Issue: "Was [Kylie] my first love? Probably. And it was not an easy break-up. She and I were so connected personally and professionally, it's a very difficult relationship to escape.

"And not only that, we were in everyone's living room across the word. It's quite a unique position." Jason has also recently revealed that he holds a great deal of "respect and admiration" for Kylie.

She, in turn, recently confided to the Sunday Times ahead of the Netflix documentary: "I've texted [Jason] some doozies while I was looking through all the old photos and video footage of us together. I told him he better start collecting things for his doc."

Jason has been wed to Angela Malloch since 2008, and the couple have three children together. Kylie, meanwhile, remains unattached following her separation from GQ executive Paul Solomons in 2023.
