Tributes have been flooding in following the death of EastEnders star Michael Keating. He played Reverend George Stevens in the BBC soap opera between 2005 and 2007. His character appeared for christenings, marriages and funerals in the fictional town of Walford and had regular interactions with Albert Square's most religious resident, Dot Branning who was played by June Brown.

The 79-year-old star also played Villa Restal in the beloved BBC series Blake's 7. Other notable roles included parts in Yes Minister, Midsomer Murders, The Bill and Casualty. Confirming his death, the official Cult Edge X account posted: "So terribly sad to hear reports that we’ve lost Michael Keating. What a loss, and what a wonderful man. He’ll be hugely missed. Thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Michael, and thank you xx."

Fans have been taking to X following the news of his passing, with one fan writing: "So sorry to hear that Michael Keating has died. A fine actor with a wonderful career, including a recurring role in #EastEnders, but to me he will always be the wonderful Vila in #Blakes7. RIP."

Another said: "Oh no man. Met him a couple of times at Blake7 conventions. Lovely guy, he was too."

Someone else added: "Just heard the sad news that Michael Keating, who played Villa in Blake's 7, has died aged 79. I hope the BBC can put some sort of a tribute on the series 3 blu ray box set when it's released later in the year."

Another fan wrote: "I'm heartbroken to learn Michael Keating has passed away. He really sold the lovable coward Vila Restal to me as a child. Rest in peace, my friend, rest in peace."
