Alan Cumming

Alan Cummin has a private regret I'm told (Image: Getty)

Flamboyant host of The Traitors US, filmed in the Scottish Highlands along with its two British counterparts, Alan Cumming complains about the programme’s largely English crew. The Scottish star, a prominent SNP luvvie, has been voicing frustration that the hit series, based at Ardross Castle, mostly relies on “teams from down south”. Cumming huffs: “There are roles which Scottish people could be doing.” Originally offered the job before Claudia Winkleman, I’m told show pony Alan privately regrets turning down the chance to also front the British celebrity version.

Celebrity doesn't stop you being starstruck

Firmly established as one of our biggest young screen actors, Bridget Jones heartthrob Leo Woodall still proved embarrassingly starstruck when meeting hero Dustin Hoffman.

Cast with the 88-year-old in new crime thriller Tuner, Londoner Leo, 29, had to be told to stop calling the veteran “Mr Hoffman”.

A merciful intervention

Days after making headlines following her glamorous appearance at the Cannes film festival, Dame Joan Collins reports she initially wasn’t recognised on the red carpet.

“An officious, headsetted young woman came up to me and yelled: ‘Vite, vite, get in line. You can’t just stand here!’” reveals Joan, who plays Wallis Simpson in the new movie biopic, My Duchess.

Mercifully, spouse Percy Gibson and French co-star Laurent Lafitte intervened, ensuring Joanie, turning 93 this weekend, was soon receiving the more reverential reception she’s accustomed to!

I've got an idea who'd get her vote!

Discussing Andy Burnham standing in her old neck of woods in the Makerfield by-election, former Sky News glamourpuss Kay Burley purrs: “The Andy Burnham appeal is that he can reach the parts of Labour that other politicians can’t permeate.”

Kay isn’t known to be entirely impartial as far as doe-eyed Andy's concerned. She was once heard to enthuse: “Andy Burnham... he’s another politician I fancy!”

At least he's honest!

While Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe are confirmed as new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing, the show’s sharp-tongued judge Craig Revel Horwood playfully announces: “If I am nice I won't make any money, darling. I have got an eight-bedroom mansion with a swimming pool thanks to all your wonderful TV licences!"

Hardly the sort of message the beleaguered BBC presently needs, Craig...

It all paid off for the young prince in the end

Seen emotionally celebrating in Istanbul after watching his beloved Aston Villa’s Europa League final triumph, I'm reminded Prince William once feared for eldest son George’s football allegiance. The young royal originally informed his father he supported Chelsea, before being later converted to the Villa cause.

Fair enough

Married to Earl Spencer during a private ceremony in Arizona - becoming the fourth wife of Princess Diana’s brother - Professor Cat Jarman is currently proving reluctant to adopt the title of Countess.

The Norwegian-born archaeologist has remarked: “I already have titles I have earned: my PhD and my professorship. Where would the Countess go in that? And I wouldn't want to give them up. I've worked hard for them.”

Recently bitterly divorced from Spencer, third spouse Karen, who now lives just down the road from the Earl’s Althorp estate, retains her own Countess title.
