Brits have been advised to check one thing ahead of the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend. The combination of the three-day weekend and high temperatures means many people are gearing up to make the most of it, and for many, that will involve travelling with family and friends.
However, National Rail has warned that industrial action and railway works are expected to affect certain lines between Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23, and therefore anyone planning to travel over the weekend should check timetables ahead of travelling.
Industrial action by TSSA union will impact London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway services on Friday and Saturday. Therefore, National Rail advises passengers to “only travel if necessary,” as trains will run on only a small number of routes.
No trains will run after 7pm on Friday or before 7am on Saturday, with both days seeing a reduced timetable.
Routes with a limited service on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 May are:
Birmingham New Street and London Euston via Northampton - 1 train per hour
Northampton and London Euston - 1 train per hour
No trains will run on any other London Northwestern Railway route, including all routes between Stafford and Crewe via Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe and London Euston, Bedford and Bletchley, or St Albans Abbey and Watford Junction.
Routes with a limited service on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 May are:
Wolverhampton and Walsall via Birmingham New Street - 1 train per hour
Rugeley Trent Valley and Birmingham International via Birmingham New Street - 1 train per hour
Lichfield Trent Valley and Redditch / Bromsgrove via Birmingham New Street - 2 trains per hour
No trains will run on any other West Midlands Railway route, including all routes via Birmingham Snow Hill, the Camp Hill line, Shrewsbury line, Hereford line, or between Nuneaton and Leamington Spa.
Those who plan to travel but use other services have been advised to also do check as engineering works are also taking place during the late May Bank Holiday.
