Liquidators have been appointed to a UK alcohol wholesaler. Thomas Edward Guthrie and John William Rimmer of BRI Business Recovery were appointed to MWH Wine Merchants Limited to oversee the winding up of operations on May 13.

Liquidation is the legal process through which a business is dissolved. This typically involves selling the company's assets to raise funds, which are then used to settle debts owed to creditors and shareholders.

The website of the wholesaler is now unavailable.

Also known simply as MWH Wines, the business is an award-winning, independent wine merchant offering a wide selection of fine and rare wines, with worldwide shipping available.

The Reading-based company is highly regarded, boasting numerous five-star reviews on customer review platform Trustpilot.

One review from December 2025, likely referring to director Michael Hall, read: "Brilliant just brilliant...Mike rescued me from a disaster with a late birthday present that arrived within 12hrs of being ordered. Could not recommend MWH Wines more highly".

Another review from April 2024 stated: "Great service from MWH Wine. A friend and I were looking for a couple of cases of port from our birth year, and fortunately came across MWH, who had exactly the vintage and quinta I was looking for. Paid, and within three-four days my two cases of port had arrived, beautifully and carefully packaged, with the cases, booklets and ceramic bin labels all wonderfully preserved and in original condition. Will definitely be coming back for more!"

A third, from August 2021, read: "I wanted something special for my 15th wedding anniversary and Mike came straight back and suggested one he had, smack on my budget. Amazing service, delivered quickly and safely. Hubby had the first bottle last night and said it was glorious! All round I would definitely recommend and will use him again x Thankyou so much. A fabulous 15 year old on my 15th anniversary".

Just months prior, a prominent British gin distillery collapsed into liquidation despite having produced half-a-million bottles annually. The official notice of liquidation for Chase Distillery Limited was published in a government gazette on March 27.

The firm, a British spirits producer under the ownership of multinational beverage giant Diageo, underwent a significant restructuring process, which ultimately resulted in the permanent closure of its original production facility.
