Concerns regarding Lee Andrews had been mounting after Katie Price said her partner had been kidnapped. However, while his location remains unknown, his father recently stated he had been imprisoned. Now, the 'kidnap' account is said to bear remarkable similarities to that of British grandfather Albert Douglas, who resided in Dubai. He had been detained for financial fraud in 2019 over a bounced cheque that related to his son's failed wooden flooring enterprise.
He was subjected to a travel ban, and then given a three-year sentence and a £2.5million fine after a court found him liable. He tried to feel the country, but was found by soldiers who put a bag over his head and took him to an unknown location.
Albert then spent the next four years in Dubai jails after attempting to flee the country, and he was tortured while in detention. He later told The Sun: "It was like a nightmare with no end."
He was finally released last December, following an intervention from the United Nations and pressure from advocacy group. He has spoken about his plight to several media outlets over recent months.
A businessman, who has mutual friends with Andrews, told The Sun that he believes he could have read about Andrew's plight and been inspired by it. He said: "Lee is the type of person to read a story and then imagine it into reality. There are lots of similarities between their stories.
"Lee could easily have made this all up based on Albert’s story, as it’s been in the UK press recently, and just be hiding out."
Now, his phone appears to have been turned on, leaving yet another twist in the case.
A source close to Lee explained: “I had been messaging Lee and was getting no response. But on Sunday morning, my messages had gone from a single tick to a double – so that device is back on and being used.
“Lee has multiple phones, but this is the one that is being used now," they told The Sun.
