Edward and Sophie, wearing a black and white shirt dress, stunned onlookers when they hopped on one of Lisbon’s iconic yellow trams. After an almost 10-minute ride through the city and looking at pics of the late Queen’s visit to Portugal, the Duke showed off his linguistic skills, thanking the driver with a quick “obrigado” as he and the Duchess arrived at their stop.

Royal fans were impressed with the royal couple and took to social media to praise them.

One user wrote on X: “How wonderful to see them enjoying a tram ride like anyone else and looking at pics of the late queen was a nice touch.”

Another one chimed: “Awww!”

A third one said: “These two are just so darn cute right now!”

A fourth one commented: “hey look like they’re on a date!”

A fifth one added: “Edward so happy receiving toy size tram and Sophie's look.”

The royal couple then attended a garden party at the residence of the UK Ambassador in Lisbon.

The garden party aimed to celebrate the people and their links at the core of the bilateral alliance and the contribution of the British community to Portuguese society.

Earlier in the day, Edward and Sophie kick-started their tour by visiting the Portuguese National Archive, where they unveiled the first display of the original English and Portuguese copies of the Treaty of Windsor, together side by side for the first time since 1386.

They were also presented with both copies of the Treaty before hearing from British and Portuguese historians on the significance of the exhibition’s contents.

This year marks the 640th anniversary of the Treaty of Windsor, which cemented the world’s oldest diplomatic alliance.

The Treaty of Windsor was sealed a year later by the marriage of Portugal’s King João I and England’s Philippa of Lancaster, who became Queen of Portugal.
