Football fans across the UK eagerly awaiting the kick off of the FIFA World Cup 2026 next week won’t be able to watch the action in some Wetherspoon pubs.

The pub chain has confirmed that while it will be showing World Cup matches live across its venues, a small number will be excluded from the action as they don’t have TV screens. The football tournament will take place from Thursday, June 11, until Sunday, July 19, so fans keen to watch the matches while enjoying a pint or two will have to check their local Wetherspoon is not one of the small number of pubs not able to screen the action.

In celebration of the World Cup, Wetherspoon is offering customers a selection of international drinks to enjoy throughout the tournament, with many hailing from the same countries as the teams competing.

Alongside the array of drinks, Wetherspoon will be serving food until 11pm and customers can cash in on its three for £15 deal on small plates.

This 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup is being jointly hosted by sixteen cities - 11 in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada - and is the first to be hosted by three nations. It’s also the first tournament to include 48 teams, up from 32 previously.

The first game will see Mexico take on South Africa on Thursday, June 11, with an 8pm kick-off time here in the UK.

As for UK interests, Scotland will have their first match on Sunday, June 14, against Haiti with a 2am kick-off (UK time), while England’s first match will take place on Wednesday, June 17, against Croatia with a 9pm kick-off (UK time).

Wetherspoon said: “Wetherspoon’s pubs will be showing the World Cup. So, wherever your local is, you won’t miss out on the events in the world’s biggest football event. Find a pub.

“Enjoy the World Cup with a selection of international drinks, many hailing from the same countries as the teams competing. Why not try something different?

“With food served until 11pm, it’s a good chance to try the food menu, including 3 for £15 on small plates. Download the Wetherspoon app for table service, or scan the QR code on the table. Join us and watch live.”
