Beach Holidays

Even though the UK is expected to have another hot and sunny summer this year, it can be tempting to catch a flight abroad to relax on a beach and soak in the sun in another country.

As it's only a two hour flight from the UK, Portugal has long been a favourite travel destination among Brits, especially as it boats sunny and warm weather throughout most parts of the year.

While areas like Porto or the capital city Lisbon are some of the more popular destinations among tourists, one holidaymaker now claims to have found the 'paradise of Portugal' that many people might not realise even exists.

Taking to TikTok, one user with the username 'Solo Traveling Joy' shared her experience of visiting the area in question, claiming she stumbled on a 'hidden waterfall' with an accompanying natural swimming pool, surrounded by gorgeous nature.

"Portugal is so underrated. And most people stick to Lisbon or Porto, but completely miss out on the Algarve," she wrote in the caption of her post.

The Algarve is Portugal’s stunning southernmost region, stretching for over 200km. And whether you’re a nature lover, a beach goer or you are simply looking for destination to relax and unwind, the Algarve will not disappoint.

Renowned for its year-round sunny weather, dramatic ochre cliffs, and golden-sand beaches, it is a prime European destination for beach holidays, world-class golf, and fresh seafood, according to Visit Portugal.

If you're looking to stay in the Algarve, there are plenty of options to pick from. The most popular areas, however, Lagos in the west and Tavira in the east, which are widely considered the region's top spots. Lagos offers dramatic golden cliffs and vibrant town life, while Tavira provides historic, unspoiled Portuguese charm.

The hidden waterfall she mentioned in the video is the Queda do Vigario, and is located near the rural village of Alte, which is a short detour off the A2 connecting Lisbon and the Algarve.

"This was one of my fav natural swimming pools… peaceful, hidden, and 100% worth the detour," the woman in the video added in the caption of her post.

"Go in the morning when no one is there!" she recommended.

People were quickly amazed by the woman's video, as people quickly flooded the comment section with their thoughts.

"This looks like a hidden gem," one person wrote, while another user said: "Wow, thanks for the tip."

Another person said: "Adding this to my Portugal list! Amazing shots."

Someone else shared: "Been here today was lush."
