Trooping the Colour represents one of the few occasions when fans of the Royal Family have the opportunity to see the Royals assembled together in one location. Many are typically especially keen to glimpse the Prince and Princess of Wales' three children, who will eventually assume responsibility for leading the Royal Family in years to come.
During today's Trooping the Colour ceremony in London, the family - including King Charles and Queen Camilla, alongside Prince William and Princess Kate and their three children - gathered on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to acknowledge crowds of supporters and well-wishers. And Princess Charlotte, William and Kate's second child and sole daughter, has received applause for her conduct throughout the occasion. Footage shared on X, formerly Twitter, shows the Princess, 11, standing to attention while members of her family talk among themselves as the National Anthem commences.
While the King and Queen, together with the Prince and Princess of Wales and their two sons, promptly stand to attention, Charlotte was conspicuously already appropriately positioned, reports the Mirror. The user who shared the footage remarked: "Pay attention to the way Princess Charlotte stood at attention before everyone else in the group chatting as soon as the Anthem came on. This girl is on point with Royal etiquette and a natural at keeping her brothers in line."
Others contributed their praise for the Princess. One commented: "I think she's a leader."
Another posted: "A fitting future Princess Royal indeed. Great Auntie Anne must be proud."
Another user commented: "She's ready for whatever the future may hold for her." While a further user added: "Strong independent young lady. She'll be great support to Prince George."
Others were struck by how tall Prince George, heir to the throne, has grown, observing that, at just 12 years old, he stands almost level with his mother. One remarked: "Considering that Catherine is wearing heels, George must be her height now, or nearly so. Tall like his dad. What a beautiful family."
Meanwhile, others declared Charlotte the "main character" of the occasion - despite it being held in honour of King Charles' official birthday. Riding in a carriage alongside her mother and brothers, Charlotte radiated confidence and poise as she waved and beamed at the crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of her and her family, even when other members of her family refrained from doing so.
Princess Charlotte donned a simple white dress with short sleeves, while her brothers sported smart suits, ensuring they were impeccably turned out for the momentous occasion. One user took to X to write: "Princess Charlotte is out there being the Main Character."
Another replied: "I just know how the children are always well groomed, appropriately attired and presented in all situations, ceremonial, formal or informal."
Princess Charlotte is frequently said to bear a striking resemblance to her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Royal commentator Phil Dampier told the Daily Express: "She is growing up fast and reminds me of Princess Anne as she's a strong character and able to tell her brothers what to do."
Commenting on her likeness to the late monarch, he further remarked: "Winston Churchill once said of the late Queen Elizabeth when she was a child that he had never seen such maturity in someone so young, and Charlotte seems to have inherited that trait from her great-grandmother, to whom she bears an uncanny resemblance."
