Working out when to head to the bar – or the loo – during England’s World Cup opener tonight can prove a bit of a headache for those desperate not to miss the magic moment of a goal. But now a team of boffins have worked out the best and worst times to head to the bar during the tournament. Analysing every World Cup goal since 1930, Access Hospitality and DesignMyNight have found the best and worst minutes to go to the bar during the tournament, helping fans to secure a drink and never miss a goal.

And they found that the 75th minute of a football match is the worst time to head to the bar during a game. That’s the time that has been crowned the most goal-heavy moment of the tournament across all periods analysed, with 47 goals scored within the minute.

So that means tonight England fans must not to take their eyes off the screen at 22:30 in The Three Lions’ World Cup debut.

The analysis also revealed several goal-dominated moments during the World Cup, when fans should avoid heading to the bar, including minutes 43-45, 80-85 and 88-90.

The data also reveals that England fans should head to the bar in minutes 5-10, 19-25, 50-60, and 86-87 to avoid missing a goal.

To help fans remember the best and worst times to head to the bar during the World Cup, Access Hospitality and DesignMyNight have launched the ‘The Goalden Window’ beer mat, which calls out the crucial times to ‘Head to the Bar’, ‘Check the Queue’ and ‘Stay in your Seat’.

They will be available in 80 venues across the UK, including BrewDog, Boxpark, Flight Club, Greene King and Stonegate pubs and bars.
