Lorraine Kelly has spoken candidly about an emotional new chapter following the heartbreaking death of her father. The presenter's dad John died in January aged 84 after suffering a fall on an icy path close to his home.

In a statement released at the time, the ITV star informed fans that her father had been "in poor health", though said his passing still came as a shock.

She signed off the message, adding: "Our priority is taking care of my mum, and the family would very much appreciate privacy at this distressing time."

Nearly six months later, Lorraine has opened up about how the tragedy has brought a bittersweet "new beginning" for her family.

Throughout her father's illness, she grew considerably closer to her brother Graham, who spent decades living in the Far East but has since been spending more time back in Scotland.

The 66 year old told Saga Magazine: "When dad wasn't well, it brought us closer, supporting each other. It's been a tough time, but the conversations you have with your relatives that you wouldn't have had otherwise are amazing, you talk about the past and then the wedding [her daughter Rosie's] - that's the new beginning."

Lorraine went on to say that she still catches herself referring to her father as though he remains with her. "It's weird," she confessed. "When something massive is happening, your hand still goes to your phone.

"Dad is - I keep speaking about him in the present tense - really into space. When [NASA's rocket] Artemis II flew around the moon, I wanted to say, 'Are you watching this? It's amazing'. Then you realise he's not there."

Lorraine's brother is thought to be among the many guests set to attend her daughter's wedding, due to take place in Scotland next month.

Alongside preparations for her daughter's big day, the presenter has also relished supporting Rosie through the joys of motherhood, following the arrival of her first child, daughter Billie, in 2024.

Speaking warmly about her granddaughter in the same interview, Lorraine revealed that recent changes to her television schedule have afforded her more precious time together with the little one.

Following cutbacks at ITV, her self-titled daytime programme now broadcasts for 30 minutes rather than a full hour, on a seasonal basis.

With a newfound abundance of free time, she has also channelled her energy into writing and is currently working on her third novel.

"I've got so many ideas," she said. "I get the most joy from my granddaughter, but now I've found the thing in my life that gives me the most creative joy."

Lorraine has also previously ventured into podcasting hosting the show, What If?, from 2021 until 2025.

While she hasn't entirely ruled out reviving the podcast, Lorraine acknowledged it was "quite difficult" for Rosie to commit to as a new mum.
