Meghan Markle’s latest stunt for As Ever has attracted the wrong kind of attention after she was branded a “copycat” – and fans aren’t happy. The Duchess of Sussex posted a “cringe” and “obnoxious” image to promote the brand on her Instagram page, showing a wicker basket full of fruit and vegetables – but with none of her products in shot.

The basket contained tomatoes, carrots, apples and artichokes, alongside the caption: “A basket full of summer.” Each of the foods was washed clean, undermining the idea of it all being homegrown. In the subsequent video following the basket, Meghan wore a $620 shirt and $280 jeans while out in her garden.

Fans immediately took to social media to complain about the promo piece, but it was one comparison to Pamela Anderson that had her being branded a “copycat”.

One X user tweeted: “Grifteress Meghan Markle copied that basket idea from the lovely Pamela Anderson’s show. Meghan Markle is a thief, a parasite of other women.”

Someone else said: “That must be a truly magical garden that produces out of season items, meticulously clean!”

It wouldn’t be the first time Meghan has been accused of copying Pamela, with the trailer of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan drawing the ire of fans who said it was similar to Pamela’s Cooking with Love trailer.

Pamela was asked by chat show host Andy Cohen: “On a scale from one to 10, how much of a rip-off did you feel like With Love, Meghan was of your show, Pamela’s Cooking with Love?"

But she simply responded in defence of the duchess: “One. I didn’t really look, but I mean, I didn’t invent cooking shows." She added that Meghan is “just doing her thing”.
