Police have issued a major update after a mum was found beaten to death in her home, with officers launching a huge manhunt for the suspect. A Garda spokesperson has confirmed a person of interest left Ireland before the victim's body was discovered.

International law enforcement agencies are now assisting the murder investigation into the death of 43-year-old Jamey Carney, who was found dead at her home on Muckross Road in Killarney, Co Kerry, on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Irish Mirror reported that gardai are searching for a man in his 20s who had been living at an IPAS centre in Killarney after arriving in Ireland in the middle of 2024 as an applicant for international protection. The news outlet reported the suspect, described as being from the Middle East, previously lived in France, knew Ms Carney and occasionally stayed at her home. In a new statement issued on Thursday, Gardaí said: "An Garda Síochána are continuing to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a female at a domestic residence in Killarney on Tuesday 7th July 2026.

"The scene at Muckross Road, Killarney remains preserved, and a technical examination of this location is continuing.

"An Garda Síochána is satisfied that a person of interest in this investigation left the jurisdiction in the early hours of Tuesday 7th July prior to the body of the deceased female being discovered and reported to An Garda Síochána.

"As part of this ongoing investigation An Garda Síochána is engaging with international Law Enforcement partners.

"This murder investigation is being carried out by the Serious Crime Unit, Kerry Division led by a Senior Investigating Officer based at an incident room established at Killarney Garda station.

"The investigation team is being assisted by National units including the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) and the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB).

"Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any person with any information on this incident to come forward and speak to the investigation team.

"Gardaí continue to appeal to any person who was in the Muckross Road area of Killarney between 11pm on the 6th of July and 5am on the 7th of July 2026 and who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam, is asked to provide this footage to investigating Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station. Investigations are ongoing."

According to the Irish Mirror, investigators believe the suspect boarded a flight to Turkey at around 11am on Tuesday, hours before Ms Carney's body was discovered.

The publication reported the development is a significant setback because the suspect could use Turkey as a staging post before travelling to his home country.

It added that while Turkey has an extradition treaty with Ireland, extradition can only proceed if the Director of Public Prosecutions authorises criminal charges.

Although Ireland has no formal extradition treaty with the suspect's home country, extradition may still be possible if authorities there agree to a specific Irish request.
