A woman in her 50s has tragically died after a fatal crash on the M62 in Rochdale. Greater Manchester Police said that at around 11pm on Saturday (July 11), officers were called to reports of an incident in which a grey Nissan Juke collided with a grey BMW X5 between Junctions 21 and 22 of the M62.

The force said: "It is believed the Nissan was travelling in the wrong direction on the eastbound carriageway prior to the collision." The driver of the Nissan, a woman aged in her 50s, suffered "serious injuries" as a result of the collision and sadly died at the scene.

The driver and passengers in the BMV were treated for minor injuries.

No arrests have been made, but police urge anyone with information or footage of the collision to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact GMP on 0161 856 4741, quoting log 4349 of 11/07/2026.

GMP said: "Officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for information following a fatal collision that occurred on the M62 in Rochdale.

"At around 11pm yesterday (11/07/26), we were called to reports of an incident where a grey Nissan Juke collided with a grey BMW X5 between Junction 21 and 22 of the M62.

"It is believed the Nissan was travelling in the wrong direction on the eastbound carriageway prior to the collision.

"The driver of the Nissan, a woman aged in her 50s, suffered serious injuries following the collision and sadly died at the scene. The driver and passengers of the BMW were treated for minor injuries.

"No arrests have been made at this time in relation to this incident. The Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

"They are keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV from the area in the moments leading up to the incident."
