Meghan and Harry's reunion with King Charles III has not been the success that it seems like, a royal expert has said. The couple had a private reunion with Harry's father after years of a frosty relationship between the 41-year-old prince and the rest of the Royal Family.

The whole saga has split public opinion, but many have viewed the reunion as a win for the couple, who live miles away in California after stepping down as working royals in 2020.

One royal author, Rob Shuter, said that people shouldn't believe the headlines that suggest the reunion was a resounding success.

"Don’t believe the hype," an insider told him. "This wasn’t a surrender—it was a grandfather wanting to see his grandchildren. People are confusing compassion with capitulation."

They continued: "Yes, the meeting happened. But look at what didn’t happen.

"There was no official photograph. No public embrace. No balcony moment. No joint statement declaring a new chapter. No announcement restoring Harry’s role. No change to security arrangements. No constitutional shift. The monarchy gave away absolutely nothing."

"If Buckingham Palace wanted the world to see this as a reconciliation, there would have been a picture," they added. "The fact that there wasn’t tells you everything you need to know."

The expert went on to describe the reunion as "a private family moment between an ageing King, his son, and his grandchildren—not a public rehabilitation of the Sussex brand".

One royal author, Tom Bower, told the Daily Express: "The man is poison for the monarchy, and I think all the damage he and Meghan have done over the last 5 years, yes, there was again more damage, and the monarchy's popularity has fallen.

"It needs to rebuild its popularity and rebuild its respect for people. And Harry's presence in Britain just undermines that effort."
