Axed This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has broken his social media silence for the first time in two years. The 64-year-old's Instagram boasts 2.5 million followers but he has not posted on the platform since November 2024, when he shared a poignant photo of a Newquay sunset after scattering the combined ashes of his mum and dad.

However, on Saturday, he took to his page to share his excitment as the Three Lions took on Norway in Miami for their World Cup quarter-final match, which saw England win 2-1 to secure a place in the semi-finals. Prior to the game he shared an extreme close-up selfie of his face on which he had applied a transfer tattoo of the England flag. He had another transfer on his cheek, which was slightly smudged but meant to read, "It’s coming home". "Bloody s***e transfer’, he quipped of the image, adding a face-plant emoji and a laughing face.

At the time it was believed he would continue to present peak-time shows for ITV including The British Soap Awards and a new prime-time series.

In a statement shared at the time, he said: "I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me.

"I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it."

"I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning."

He added: "Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over."
