Prince Harry has shared a personal insight into his approach to fatherhood, revealing he follows the example set by his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, when comforting his own children.

The Duke of Sussex said Diana would hug him and his brother, Prince William, "as tight as possible", a gesture he now repeats with his son and daughter when they have experienced a difficult day.

Harry shared the reflection during an appearance on the Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast, which was recorded last Thursday and released on Monday.

The interview was published shortly before Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, visited their grandfather, King Charles, the following day, marking their first meeting in four years.

Speaking to former England rugby union forward and Celebrity Traitors contestant Joe Marler, the Duke said: "The resilience of kids is amazing and the way they view life is so incredibly refreshing."

He added: "And if a day is hard, one thing I will do is always squeeze my kids that extra, extra tight."

During the light-hearted episode, Harry answered a series of questions in the style of a mock therapy session hosted by "Dr Marler".

The Duke was asked to give his full name and replied: "Henry Charles Albert David, Duke of Sussex."

According to the Independent, he also joked that his hair colour was not "ginger" but "auburn".

When asked to name his favourite "trashy TV show", Harry replied "Love Island", before clarifying: "I don’t watch Love Island, I have watched Love Island."

Asked which other famous Harry he would choose to be for the day from Harry Styles, Harry Kane or Harry Potter, he picked Kane "on a winning day".

The Duke also gave his prediction for England’s World Cup chances, saying: "I think it’s coming home, not going to be easy – never is."

When questioned about his grooming routine, Harry replied: "S***, shave, shower", adding: "I trim my beard every five or six days, just to keep it a little bit tidy."

The Duke, who has spoken openly about losing his hair, joked: "Nothing really happening on top, I get a hair cut, otherwise I try not to look at what’s happening."

The questions later turned to more serious topics, with Harry asked how he dealt with trauma.

He replied: "Exercise, sport and being able to find the time to take yourself somewhere, do something – repetition is great, have a routine."

He added: "Boxing, another thing that I really enjoy, just to let the aggression out, get a sweat on, to me it’s always about getting a sweat on."
