Now, it has been nominated in the Outstanding Lifestyle Programme category, which will compete against NBC's George to the Rescue, Hallmark's The Motherhood, The Wizard of Paws and A Different Breed. Winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on October 30.

The news soon made headlines, with the Duchess of Sussex sharing the news on Instagram as she thanked the crew behind the two-series show for their efforts. On Wednesday (July 15), Megyn Kelly brought up the royal's achievement when she welcomed former Emmy winner Adam Carolla onto the show.

She began: "I'm sure you've been recognised with multiple awards and honoured by the Emmys many times for your outstanding programmes, just like Meghan Markle. She has been honoured by the Emmys with a daytime Emmy nod for that hideous Netflix show she did.

"It's amazing to me. It's quite possibly the actual worst product to hit television over the past five years, and now she has managed to get an Emmy." The producer chuckled: "I understand that feeling of being alive when you take a bag of trail mix and dump it into an ashtray and then consume it."

She brutally added one cutting sentence, saying: "This is why the Oscars are worthless, and nobody watches the Emmys anymore..." as she continued: "And it becomes a popularity contest or some sort of kitchy club like you're back in high school again. They took their awards and undervalued them; that's what's happened to the Emmys and the Oscars.

"Nobody gives a s**t anymore because they just hand them out to their friends. It's just one step closer to the grave for Hollywood and awards." It didn't take long for viewers to flock to social media to share their frustrations online.

One user penned: "That show had toilet ratings. She was promoting salmonella, and there were parodies everywhere; it was so awful. Those nominations and awards are shams."

Another agreed: "Markle did not 'get' a nomination... she most likely nominated herself. No one in their right mind would nominate that disastrous show, certainly not Netflix, which has cancelled it."

A third chimed in with: "The awards shows have always been political and a popularity contest. It doesn't matter if she was nominated; the real people who count already gave her a thumbs down. "
