Weather maps of the UK

Britain is set to be drenched by a wall of rain arriving within days, after the parched nation has endured almost an entire month without significant rainfall. There's been no wet weather of note over the United Kingdom since June 27, when London and the South East saw downpours.

But new forecast maps from WXCharts could bring welcome relief to the nation, as a low-pressure system is predicted to bring showers to much of the country at the end of this month. Over 24 hours from Saturday July 25 into Sunday July 26 a huge 600-mile-long band of rain is expected to come in off the Atlantic and bring an end to draught-like conditions which have seen hosepipe bans enforced in some part of England.

According to the new maps, the rain will hit Northern Ireland and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland first before drifting across Wales, western England and over the rest of the country by the morning of July 26.

The Met Office forecast covering the weekend onwards states "outbreaks of widespread rain" will push across the country from Saturday.

It adds: "A changeable period is likely overall, with many areas likely to see a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times.

"Northwestern areas are more likely to see the focus of rainfall, but southeastern areas should also see some showers."

However, looking ahead beyond the weekend the national forecaster said dry conditions could return for the start of August.

"Tere are hints that high pressure could return for a time, which would mean dry conditions resuming, especially in the south," the forecast added.

"Winds will be mostly light or moderate, but occasionally fresh or strong around some coasts, mainly in the north.

"Temperatures will be near or above normal, warmest in the south, and perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August."
