Many areas in the UK are forecast sweltering temperatures from next week with weather maps showing some areas will be warmer than Greece.

Weather maps that use GFS models show extreme temperatures as they turn a deep red on Wednesday, July 29 with highs of 36C.

This is hotter than the majority of Greece, sitting at 35C, and will be blistering for many Brits.

Other areas will also climb to the mid thirites, reaching the same temperature as the Mediterranean country.

Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire are forecast highs of 35C.

Closer to the coast, people of Sussex, will be able to enjoy the beach as the region is also predicted a scorching 35C.

Following previous heatwaves, if temperatures do reach these highs it is likely disruption could be felt across the nation.

In June records were broken and chaos erupted in both the transport and healthcare departments.

Even in cooler areas of England on July 29, highs are expected to reach around 30C.

Yorkshire will see a still sweaty 30C, with Greater Manchester forecast to reach 31C.

In the south west temperatures may be slightly lower not quite getting to 30C.

If these temperatures continue into August, as expected by the Met Office, an official heatwave will be announced.

A heatwave is a prolonged period of excessively hot and humid weather, lasting for three or more days typically. It is defined relative to the normal climate of a specific location, meaning a temperature that is standard in one region can be considered a heatwave in another.

The Met Office forecast for this period says: "A changeable period is likely overall, with many areas likely to see a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times.

"Temperatures will be near or above normal, warmest in the south, and perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August."
