Donald Trump has sent a furious warning to the European Union as tensions between the US President and bloc soar to explosive levels.

In a blistering rant on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused the EU of "as usual, taking direct aim at GREAT American Companies!".

"After having fined Apple, for no reason at all, 15 Billion Dollars, Meta, 3 Billion Dollars, Amazon 2.5 Billion Dollars, and many others, we have just been informed that Google, a truly advanced and amazing group, has been fined yet another 1 Billion Dollars, without explanation."

The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm and enforces competition rules, handed out two separate fines worth 460 million euros (£392 million) and 430 million euros (£367 million).

It claimed it found two cases of non-compliance, one for self-preferencing on Google Search, and another for preventing the steering of customers towards potentially cheaper services on Google Play.

The commission claimed Google breached the Digital Markets Act by giving preferential treatment to its own services, including shopping, hotels, sports results and transport, over those of other firms in Google Search.
